UPLOADING TUTORIALS

This tutorial is very long but i have took many screenshots & tried to explain it best i can, was kinda hard lol

First you need a program like Dreamweaver or Frontpage etc, i use Dreamweaver so ill be explaining this as if you have it too, should be the same for all programs but things might be in a different place

Ill explain a few things that you must make sure you do before you upload your tuts.
First things first go to My documents - make a new folder & call it My Webs, this is where you will put your tutorials
Inside this folder make another folder and name it the name of your site, so i would call mine - Essence Of Creativity
Inside that folder lol make another new folder & call it Tuts or Tutorials, doesnt matter - this is where all your tut folders etc will go
Place your tut template that i sent in your main tuts folder, just outside all your other tut folders, makes it easier to get too

When you write your tutorials your tutfolders need to be in small letters & no spaces, so for example - beautywithin - thats what they need to look like. Inside each folder you need to have your main image, screenshots & zip file. I always write my tuts to wordpad first so i place these in my folders too. Also when you do your HTML page you place this in your tut foler too.

So this is what my tut folder looks like -

And this is what they look like inside -

As you can see in the 2nd screenshot i have my tag, supplies folder, supplies zip, screenshots & my tut on html

Right now thats out of the way ill show you how to put your tut on HTML
In your HTML program go to file - open & find your tut template ( ill use one of your for this cos mines different lol)

Click inside each of the black boxes 1 & 2 - write the name of your tut. I use Verdana size 7 the header & size 2 fir the tut text but feel free to mess around & find one that you like

Click inside the big white part where your tag will go, make sure its centered
Go to insert - image - look through your folders for your tag, hit ok
Your tag will now be in your page

Now to add your tut - its easy lol
Under where it says supplies add what supplies they need, tubes etc
Then add your main tut under the lets get started bit, you dont have to have these bits you can delete them & put what you want lol. If you delete them make sure you save your template then you dont have to delete everytime you do a tut lol
Just copy your tut from wordpad or whatever you write your tut on & paste it onto your html - easy!!!! lol

If you wanna change your text drag your mouse over all your text to highlight it & change the text settings to whatever you like
If you have screenshots add them the same way as you added your main tag

Now to add links & your supplies
Highlight the word you want to link

At the bottom where it says link type out your link - change target to blank, this will open the link in a new page

To add the supplies - highlight the word same way as above
In the same place where you added the link before youll see a folder - click that and find the supplies to your tut - hit ok

There you go your supplies are added now lol

Now to change the colour of your links & border etc
What i do for picking my colour is open my tag in psp and with my colour dropper pick the colour i want to use
View your code for your tut page - looks like <> in Dreamweaver
Heres what your code will look like

Only change the codes that i highlight - these are for your links, hover, scrollbar & background
I just copy & paste my code from psp to my html

Heres the ones to change

You can preview your page to see what it looks like when its on the net
In Dreameaver above your workspace youll see a globe click that & preview in Internet Explorer
This will open it in IE for you to check
Once happy with the way your page looks - save it, file - save as - name it the same way you named your folder, it has to be the EXACT same or it wont work once its uploaded - so mine would be called beautywithin
Where it says save type as under filename select HTML documents

Save to your tut folder with the same name

Now to add the tut to your site
First you need to add the tut to your tutorial list - so open your list the same way as your did at the beginning when you opened your template

Click on the html button so you can see the codes

Ive used Lisas tutorial page for this cos mines different
Please dont freak out when you see everything lmao you wont be touching anything apart from the stuff i highlight for you - ok?

Now to add your tut - highlight & copy one of your codes you already got from your tut page

Past it to where your new tut will go - in alphabetical order
Now you need to change the name & link etc

Highlight where the name of the tut is

Delete & write the name of your new tutorial
Next highlight The blue bit on your code inside the " signs

This is the link to your tutorial HTML page - so we need to change this to link to our new tutorial
At the bottom where we added our supplies, links etc click the folder again
Go through your folders til you find your new tutorial folder - click the html

Click ok & youll see that the code has changed - this will now link to your new tut - you can preview again like you did earlier to make sure everything is right

Now for your updates
Open your updates like you did with your tut page etc
If you can see your test then its easier cos you can copy & paste text from below and just change it
What i do is copy & paste the last time it was updated, change the date, tut names & add link the tuts at the bottom, the same way we added your supplies
If you cant see your text then you need to change your codes
Copy & paste the code like before & change everything ike you did last time or an easier way is to highlight all your text by clicking anywhere on your page & pressing ctrl A change the colour of your text - add your updates then change the colour back to the colour it was before lol

Ive added a tut on how to login to FTP - so follow that until you see your folders on the left & your site folders on the right
You might have to find them on your comp in the left box but thats easy lol
This is what mines like

We add our tutorial first in your left box open your tut folder by double it - find the folder for your new tut, click it once to highlight it - in your right box find your tut folder
Click this button to transfer your tut over

If you have a scrapkit in your supplies it will take longer cos they are massive files
Youll know when the transfer is complete cos it will make a noise
Click the green arrow at the top in the boxes til you get to your main site folder
Add your updates HTML the same way
Check your site to see that its added right
Close & exit FTP

If youve done everything right - then YAY well done - if not then just go back and check everything again lol

If you need anything feel free to email me - ill gladly help.

-x-
